The emergency department is the unit where the fastest response is made to prevent death or permanent disability for individuals with health problems.

Especially on weekends or at the end of the working hours, the intensity of the emergency service starts because the hospitals are closed. At this point, triage is performed for patients who need urgent intervention. Triage is the separation of patients in order of importance and is one of the most important processes in the emergency department. Emergency situations of patients are divided into 3 groups as red, yellow and green.

Red area: It includes patients who are seriously injured and whose life is in danger, requiring urgent treatment. Patients brought by ambulance are also included in this group. Shock, coma, cardiac arrest, closure of the respiratory tract, poisoning, severe burns, allergies that can lead to death, birth, uncontrolled bleeding, traumas are diseases that cover the red area.

Yellow area: Indicates patients who need medical care but whose condition is not severe. If there are positive developments with short-term medical treatment and follow-up, the patient is discharged or transferred to the relevant unit if inpatient treatment is required. Swallowing problems, moderate burns, abdominal pain, kidney stone pain, long bone fractures such as arm, forearm, thigh, leg, finger, hip fractures, open or comminuted fractures, severe headaches are diseases that cover the yellow area.

Green area: Non-urgent and stable patients are included in this group. These patients are usually examined and discharged. Sprains, persistent joint pains, headaches, skin rashes, colds, stitch removal, insect bites (not causing allergic shock), wound treatment, simple earache, simple injuries are the conditions that cover the green area.

In the emergency department of our hospital, which provides service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with its experienced physician staff and administrative staff; There is an observation room with 10 beds, a patient examination room, a fully-equipped CPR room, an intervention and dressing room, a plaster and injection room, a physician’s rest room. However, biochemistry, microbiology and radiology units are open 24 hours a day for emergency patients.

After the necessary intervention is made in the emergency room, the patient is discharged in 3 ways:

  • Transfer of the patient to the appropriate unit in the hospital
  • Transfer of the patient to another better equipped center
  • Sending the patient home

The discharge and transfer procedures of the patients in the observation area are carried out by the emergency physician by informing the patient and their relatives.
