The emergency department is the unit where the fastest intervention is made to prevent death or permanent disability of individuals with health problems.

Especially on weekends or at the end of working hours, the emergency department gets busy because hospitals are closed. At this point, triage is performed for patients who need urgent intervention. Triage is the separation of patients in order of importance and is one of the most important processes in the emergency department. The urgency status of patients is divided into 3 groups as red, yellow and green.

Red Area

It includes patients who are seriously injured and in life-threatening condition and need urgent treatment. Patients brought by ambulance are also included in this group. Shock, coma, cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, poisoning, severe burns, allergies that can lead to death, childbirth, uncontrolled bleeding, traumas are the diseases that cover the red zone.

Yellow Area

Refers to patients who need medical care but whose condition is not severe. If there are positive developments with short-term medical treatment and follow-up, the patient is discharged or transferred to the relevant unit if inpatient treatment is required. Swallowing problems, moderate burns, abdominal pain, kidney stone pain, fractures of long bones such as arms, forearms, thighs, legs, fingers, hip fractures, open or comminuted fractures, severe headaches are the diseases covered by the yellow zone.

Green Area

This group includes non-emergency patients who are in a stable condition. These patients are usually examined and discharged. Sprains, persistent joint pain, headaches, skin rashes, colds, stitches, insect bites (not causing allergic shock), wound treatment, simple earache, simple injuries are the conditions covered by the green area.

In the emergency department of our hospital, which serves 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with experienced physicians and administrative staff, there is a 10-bed observation room, patient examination room, fully equipped CPR room, intervention and dressing room, plaster and injection room, physician rest room, and 1 service vehicle. In addition, biochemistry, microbiology and radiology units are open 24 hours a day for emergency patients.

After the necessary intervention is made to the patient in the emergency department, the discharge process is carried out in 3 ways:

  • Referral of the patient to the appropriate unit within the hospital
  • Referral of the patient to another more equipped center
  • Sending the patient home

Discharge and transfer procedures of patients in the observation area are carried out by the emergency physician by informing the patient and patient relatives.
